Skincare brand Simple, are encouraging mothers to incorporate some seasonal fruits and vegetables into their festive beauty regime.
Simple’s nutritionist Fiona Hunter, has created some Christmas recipes to help maintain beautiful skin, whilst parents party.
Brussels Sprouts are not hugely popular with everyone, but their high levels of Vitamin C stimulates the growth of collagen.
Fiona advises: Merry Berry Brussels Sprouts
Cook the sprouts until tender then refresh under cold water. Roughly chop and set to one side. Just before eating, add a little olive oil to a frying pan and stir-fry the sprouts with some finely chopped lean back smoked bacon. Once the bacon is cooked, throw in a handful of dried cranberries and some flaked almonds then serve.
Nuts are a favourite snack to munch whilst watching Christmas television. They are good for the skin because they are a rich source of Vitamin E and essential fatty acids which help to improve skin elasticity, preventing fine lines and wrinkles.
Recipe: Spiced Nut Nibbles
Heat 1tsp of light olive oil in a shallow pan; add 100g mixed nuts, a pinch of smoked paprika, ½tsp turmeric, a pinch of chilli flakes, 1tbsp of honey and 1tsp of chopped fresh rosemary. Cook, tossing regularly, for 3-5 minutes or until the nuts are beginning to brown, then transfer to a bowl and serve.
There is no need to fear the effects of alcohol, Fiona advises just adding Cranberries. They are a super rich source of Vitamin C and help neutralise free radicals which accelerate the appearance of ageing.
Try: Christmassy Cranberry Fizz
Place 5 frozen cranberries in the bottom of a Champagne glass and add the juice of half a lime. Fill the glass half way with cranberry juice then top up with your fizz of choice.
