REVIEW: Lost and Found at the Brewery

Travelling Light and Polka Theatre’s gentle adaptation of Oliver Jeffers’ picture book Lost and Found is a perfect family outing this half term.

Running until 05 June at the Brewery, this is the best theatre in the city for preschoolers and young children this week.

It’s so easy to act children badly, but Tom Power with his wide-eyed, simple performance is perfect as The Boy who finds a penguin on his doorstep one day.

Interrupted from his play by a knock at the door, Derek Elwood bursts in as the confused honking penguin.

The relationship between the pair is at times very funny and touching as The Boy realises he has made a big mistake taking Penguin all the way back to the South Pole.

On an almost blank canvas of a stage, there is plenty of inventive use of set, puppetry and props, something Travelling Light excels at.

The children in the audience simply loved the performance, and the petty bureaucracy of the Lost and Found Office tickled the adults.

Knowing it has been created by the Travelling Light regulars including Sally Cookson, Katie Sykes and Benji Bower, you know you are in safe hands when booking tickets.

Owing to its reputation throughout South Bristol and beyond for really quality children’s theatre, the only challenge is to get your hands on a ticket for performances at the Brewery before they sell out.

Plenty of families are disappointed on the day, so book yours now before they are gone.
