Don’t get stuck in the mud at Weston Super Mare

Avoiding walking across sinking mud to reach the sea a mile out from shore may sound like dispensing bleeding obvious advice, but it is mud walking at Burnham, Berrow, Brean and Weston Super Mare Season.

In light of varying acts of stupidity already seen this summer season, visitors to beaches in the region are being warned again against walking out to sea across the mud.

BARB (Burnham Area Rescue Boat) released a photograph of a group of people mud walking their way towards the sea at low tide at 7pm yesterday evening.

Working with Burnham and Weston Coastguards, the group who were causing safety concerns were around half a mile out to sea when the hovercraft arrived.

The group were given safety advice by coastguards.

BARB says: ‘Never to walk into muddy areas of our local beaches – you can easily get into difficulty. Stay on the hard sand, check the tide times, and call 999 and ask for the Coastguard if you have concerns for yourself or others.’
