Parents to be splash £5000 before their baby’s first birthday
Somewhere in the UK, there are parents who will splash out more than £5000 before their baby’s first birthday.
According to BabyDam who carried out the research, the cost of nappies, clothes, furniture and other equipment will average out at £5,213.25.
But unsurprisingly, 82 per cent of parents admitted to buying lots of things for their first child that they didn’t need or even use.
Only 56 per cent of the 2000 first time parents were happy to accept hand-me-downs to save money.
Parents-to-be are spending £546.53 on the nursery, £265.17 on the pushchair, £82.03 on sterilising and feeding equipment and £74.16 on toys.
During the first year a further £91.37 is spent on a travel cot, £746.52 on baby clothes and a staggering £771.48 on toys, books and games.
