The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors
By Drew Daywalt and Adam Rex

Harper Collins Children’s Books
Hardback £12.99

Our Verdict: Laugh out loud funny read

Our Rating: 10/10

It’s rare to come across a children’s storybook that is properly laugh out loud funny. This one produces more than a mere titter. This is a perfect marriage of word and illustration that simply doesn’t crop up that often. The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors will be as enjoyable for adults as well as youngsters.

It tells the story of how the game rock, paper, scissors began. All three warriors go on a journey to seek out their most worthy opponent. Along the way, printers are jammed, fuzzy bummed apricots are squashed and an army of frozen dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets defeated.

For context, it comes from the same author who penned The Day the Crayons Quit, another mirth inducing tale.

The book will be suitable for children aged three years upwards, though I’m squirrelling this copy away for my ten year old who will definitely find it funny.
