Dr. Seuss certainly created a compelling character with The Grinch, with Benedict Cumberbatch’s popular vocal portrayal the latest movie incarnation of the character.
For youngsters who love the movie, there are plenty of well-timed Christmas gifts out now, with the best from HarperCollins Children’s Books.
Although The Grinch started off on the pages of a book, there’s a lot to be said for cartoons, movies and characters for engaging reluctant readers with stories, and these publications are no exception.
The Grinch – The Story of the Movie, has slightly yellowed pages, making it ideal for children who struggle with visual stress. The text is well spaced and broken up into manageable chunks, making this a great book for those still getting to grips with literacy and free readership. The chances are the children will have already seen the film, giving them a reference for the words they are reading. Those children who hate to read won’t feel overwhelmed with a story they have already visually processed. If your child loves films but hates reading, this a good middle ground. Paperback £5.99
For Boxing Day boredom, The Grinch – Movie Sticker Book (£7.99) and The Grinch – Movie Colouring Book (£3.99) are perfect for the post-Christmas excitement for the 3-5 age group.
They contain brain teasers for younger children including dot-to-dot, word searches and code breaking. The colouring book follows a basic narrative of the story and has good quality pages with strong bold lines to follow.
All the books are from HarperCollins Children’s Books and are available to buy online.
