Bristol to get new council houses
Residents who are floundering on the housing register can take heart from a major new council house-building programme in Bristol.
The new social housing programme has just been given the go ahead and will see 46 new houses ready for tenants to move in by March 2011.
Bristol is one of 47 authorities selected by the government to get funding for the project and the council is quick to reassure the public that the new housing will be delivered as quickly as possible whilst being real value for money.
Cabinet Member for Housing and Service Improvement, Councillor Mark Wright said: “I am very pleased to hear we have won this cash from the Homes and Communities Agency.
“Despite the property crash we are still very short of affordable housing in Bristol, and these new council houses will, I hope, be the first of many. Building them will also provide a kick-start to the local construction economy which really needs new construction to revive it.”
