Don't ignore the pelvic floor

Throughout pregnancy and the months following childbirth, new mums are advised to keep exercising their pelvic floor. This is to stop embarrassing leaks from happening during times of humour, exercise or moving about.

Considered to be a symptom of getting old, stress incontinence is common during pregnancy and after after childbirth because of the amount of strain the pelvic floor goes through during the nine months and B day at the end.

When your midwife mentions pelvic floor exercises take her very seriously. These will keep muscles toned, or re-tone weakened muscles. They can be done easily anywhere and nobody else need know you are even having a stretch.

If you find that with exercise things are not improving after two-weeks, then talk to your midwife or doctor. It is important not to let this problem continue.

Currently, NetDoctor and TENA are working on ways to improve the lives of people affected by bladder weakness. They are running an initiative offering free Light sample packs to people who are interested in their study. For more information on this, or to take part, visit: www.tena.netdoctor.co.uk
