Sherlock inspiration puts detective job top of the list for children’s parents

Surely some thanks must go to the magnificent Benedict Cumberbatch and his portrayal of Sherlock for 29 per cent of children wishing their parents were detectives.

Clever has become the new sexy in recent years, with findings from Playmobil showing that in fourth place, 22 per cent of children actually wanted one of their parents to be Prime Minister.

Other popular dream jobs for parents included animal breeder, train driver, sweet shop owner and scientist.

Playmobil researched the views of 618 children aged between 5-11 years of age last summer.

The top five jobs children wanted their parents to be were:

1.       Spy/ detective                  (29%)
2.       Popstar                                (25%)
3.       Olympic Athlete               (24%)
4.       Prime Minister                  (22%)
5.       Footballer                           (18%)
Spokesperson for Playmobil, Jamie Dickinson said of the children: “They are being inspired by everything from their favourite TV programme, the goings-on at Downing Street, and even the toys they play with.Children love learning and discovering new things and there’s no better way to captivate them than during playtime. In many senses, it’s a great achievement of imagination triumphing over logic and convention.  The sky’s the limit in their eyes – we as adults could benefit from taking a leaf out of their books.”
