The Byteback Computer Recycling scheme has today given out its first reconditioned computer to a Bristol resident.<\/p>\n

The new scheme is aiming to cut back on landfill by having old computers discarded by Bristol City Council refurbished and distributed to residents who can not afford to buy them.<\/p>\n

So far, 350 applications to receive a computer have been made by the city’s residents, with the first 50 recycled computers ready to go.<\/p>\n

A further 200 computers are expected to be distributed in the next month.<\/p>\n

Councillor Barbara Janke said:,\u201cWe want Bristol to be an inclusive and connected digital city, where anyone who needs a computer at home can have one, and not be excluded because they can\u2019t afford to buy one. It\u2019s wonderful to see these first computers coming through and know they\u2019re going to be put to good use by residents who need them.\u201d<\/p>\n
