It’s rare to find a positive news story about single parents these days, but if anyone can fly the flag for the potential they can achieve, it’s designer Gillian Wesley<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Until recently, the single mother of two children ran a small fashion business from a converted garage in Coventry.<\/p>\n

But after beating off 80 rivals to win an innovative business competition run by Coventry City Council, Gillian was able to move into a city shop as part of her prize which perfectly showcases her elegant designs.<\/p>\n

Gillian said: \u201cIt will come as no surprise to those around me, that at a time when many retailers are shutting up shop and moving their business home, that I should be doing the exact opposite.<\/p>\n

“This exciting opportunity has enabled my business to go from strength to strength.\u00a0 I hope that my success will inspire other councils to offer entrepreneurs this much needed helping hand to bridge the gap between home based business and high street retailer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gillian’s designs recently added a touch of glamour to red carpet event the Lord of the Dance 3D Premi\u00e8res in London and New York.<\/p>\n

Leading lady Ciara Sexton chose Gillian to create two bespoke designs for her first time on the red carpet.<\/p>\n

Ciara said: \u201cGillian has catered to my every need, ensuring I felt confident, beautiful and incredible wearing her elegant creations on the red carpet. I knew that I wanted a traditional shape to the dress but that it needed to mirror that of my character\u2019s role in the film and be strikingly gorgeous. Gillian created these fantastic pieces, right from the heart of my home town.\u201d<\/p>\n
