Bristol residents are being urged to consider becoming a lay adviser to help improve child protection in the city.<\/p>\n
The Bristol Safeguarding Children Board is responsible for overseeing the work of agencies that are involved with child protection, such as the police, health services and social services.<\/p>\n
It makes sure that agencies work well together and also safeguards the well-being of children and young people in the city.<\/p>\n
Chair of the Bristol Safeguarding Children Board, Dr Ray Jones, said: \u201cAlthough the board has a wide range of professionals who work in child protection, it would benefit greatly from a lay point-of-view on the decisions and policies we make. We would also like them to help us forge new links with community groups.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese advisors could have worked with children in the past, or received services themselves. Anyone who joins us will benefit from appropriate training and knowing that they have helped shaped services to protect children in Bristol.\u201d<\/p>\n
The role is voluntary, but expenses will be met. At least two advisors are being recruited and appointments will be for no longer than two years.
