Skin Salvation has recently launched as a natural salve for people who have eczema, psoriasis and other kinds of dry, sore and itchy skin conditions. The salve is handmade using organic hemp oil. It also contains herbs that are traditionally used to relieve itching, reduce heat, heal and soothe. It is now recommended by GPs and complementary health practitioners nationwide.<\/p>\n

Skin allergies for some people can be exceptionally bad, with steroid based creams, ice packs and cooled clothing only going a little way to help with the problem.<\/p>\n

Skin Salvation was born out of the desperation of a mother needing to take daughter’s health condition into her own hands after the hospital decided they had done all they could.<\/p>\n

Mother Natalie Balmond, had reached rock bottom trying to treat her daughter’s severe and debilitating eczema. From 18 months of age, Natalie’s daughter began to show signs of eczema. This is not uncommon in babies, but what started as small patches steadily worse. Her baby’s skin became red raw and inflamed as she scratched herself until she bled every night.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe cried and screamed when we applied prescribed steroid creams with no result. I lost so much sleep, with life becoming totally unbearable,\u201d Natalie recalls.<\/p>\n

Her daughter had to be bandaged every night and could not lead a normal life like other\u00a0 children. All sorts of environments would cause her eczema to flare up.<\/p>\n

Increasingly concerned about the long term effects of steroid creams and worried that her daughter could possibly be sensitive to the side effects of the chemicals, Natalie was desperate to find an alternative that did not include these ingredients. Trying everything from diet changes to Chinese herbs made no significant difference.<\/p>\n

Sleep deprived, exhausted and desperate, Natalie and her partner were told Great Ormond Street wanted to admit her daughter for two weeks of intensive steroid treatment. \u201cI felt like I was going to have a breakdown,\u201d says Natalie.<\/p>\n

As a last resort, a friend lent her a book about how to make ointments from herbs in her own kitchen. After reading the book, she decided to create her own home-made solution with dramatic and life changing effects.<\/p>\n

With lots of experimentation, she finally hit upon the right combination. Even before the final recipe was finished, she noticed that her daughter did not scream and flinch as they applied the ointment like she had done with all the other products they had tried.
\nSoon, her daughter’s eczema was much better. The broken skin began to heal and the itching was dramatically reduced.<\/p>\n

Seeing the success of the lotion, Natalie was soon making batches for her friends and family until the demand grew into a business.<\/p>\n

Helen says: \u201cI have suffered from really severe skin allergies for the last ten years. There seems to be no rhyme or reason behind the allergies. I can have a really severe reaction to anything from plasters, washing powder, even shoes.<\/p>\n

Helen’s shoes had a patch of plastic backing that reacted with her skin. She quickly ended up with itchy red patches and could not use her prescribed steroid cream because she was pregnant.<\/p>\n
