Bristol parents with school place worries have been celebrating this week as 135 new primary school places have been offered.<\/p>\n
Many facing an anxious wait for the second round of reception place allocations can now look forward to their child starting school locally.<\/p>\n
An additional 75 school places have been allocated in the Southville, Bedminster and Bishopsworth areas.<\/p>\n
Ashton Gate, Compass Point and St Peter’s Primary Schools have taken on additional children for this intake.<\/p>\n
And, North Bristol parents are thrilled that a further 60 places have been offered now a new primary academy will open on the former site of St. Ursula’s school.<\/p>\n
Whilst many parents faced the prospect of having to take their children some miles out of their postcode district for the 2011 reception intake, 94 per cent of parents were offered a place at one of their three preferred schools, even with a ‘significant’ increase in school place applications.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy the start of the new school year in September, we expect there will be almost 1,000 more reception age children starting primary school in Bristol than there were four years ago,\u201d says Executive Member for Children and Young People, Councillor Clare Campion-Smith.
\n\u201cThis is the equivalent of more than 30 additional one-form-entry primary schools.\u201d<\/p>\n
