An estimated 50 per cent of grandparents in the EU now provide support and care to their grandchildren. This is not going go without causing some level of friction within families across the globe.<\/p>\n

When we approached a grandparent and waved this book in their direction, it was met with a sneer and a huff. Of course, grandparents have been there and done it all before \u2013 with varying degrees of success. They obviously know best.<\/p>\n

But actually, yes, pregnancy has changed. Advice has changed. Yes, babies can feed themselves. Yes, babies did survive being put to sleep on their front, side or upside down. Yes they did survive the 1970s. Somehow.\u00a0 But the fact is, with years more research on cot death, car seat safety and other potential hazards, more babies are now surviving.<\/p>\n

Miriam Stoppard’s book will help grandparents swot up quickly and easily on new ideas, safety and laws.<\/p>\n

As well as being filled with practical, up-to-date advice it also stirs the murky waters of how to avoid overstepping the mark with the baby’s mother.<\/p>\n

It advises that grandparents’ years of experience are very valid, but they must respect the parents’ wishes, routines and their word is final.<\/p>\n

A very worthy gift to a new grandparent from a friend or the new parents themselves. They may want to hit you with it, but you will be doing them a favour. No, YANBU.<\/p>\n
