Baby and toddler safety is a number one priority for eighty per cent of mums, who think their\u00a0 parents were too lax with their own safety.<\/p>\n
Despite this, 30 per cent of parents still trust or have to trust their mother-in-law to keep their child safe when it comes to baby sitting.<\/p>\n
For 80 per cent of new mums buying a safety gate is seen as an essential piece of kit.<\/p>\n
Second time mothers are more likely to buy a playpen, cupboard and drawer locks,\u00a0 oven guards and corner cushions<\/p>\n
Child development expert, Dr Amanda Gummer says: \u201cNowadays mums – especially those with two or more children – have so much to get through each day and sometimes standards can slip. This research suggests today\u2019s mums are not prepared to compromise when it comes to their children\u2019s safety. It\u2019s easier to speak to your own mum about how you want things done, which may be why mums today would trust them over their in-laws.\u201d<\/p>\n
The poll by Lindam found that 65 per cent of mothers admitted their toddler did take a significant tumble in the home.<\/p>\n
