The Gro Company has also worked extensively with the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID) to make a British Safety Standard for sleep bags to meet.<\/p>\n

FSID is The Gro Company\u2019s nominated charity, which working hard to research and reduce the tragedy of cot death.<\/p>\n

The Big Give launched this week, presenting FSID with a fantastic fundraising opportunity. All donations made to FSID online at www.thebiggive.org.uk<\/span><\/a><\/span> throughout this week will be doubled.<\/p>\n

FSID need to raise \u00a362,000 during these five days, which will turn in to \u00a3124,000 to fund a ground-breaking research project at Great Ormond Street Hospital, as detailed below. They can only achieve this with help.<\/p>\n

From 2012 FSID will be working with an expert team based at Great Ormond Street Hospital to embark on a pioneering project. Each year in the UK 300 families are left without a reason for the sudden and unexpected death of their baby. Professor Sebire and his team will use a new lab technique known as proteomics to see if infection may actually be a cause of some deaths. We already know that bacteria play a part in cot death but they are also found in babies who died of other causes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0The team will look at changes in the pattern of proteins found in tissue samples, which could identify those babies who did die as the result of infection. If they are successful, then it would be possible to develop a cheap and fast post-mortem test so that more families can have the answer to why their baby died. It would also suggest a genetic susceptibility in those babies that die as a result of infection.<\/p>\n

The fantastic work that FSID do has led to a 70% reduction in the number of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome cases or cot deaths in the UK since 1991, saving over 19,000 babies.<\/p>\n
