{"id":1589,"date":"2009-03-05T21:14:26","date_gmt":"2009-03-05T21:14:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chopsybaby.com\/mag\/?p=1589"},"modified":"2018-07-02T13:57:48","modified_gmt":"2018-07-02T12:57:48","slug":"bristol-gets-cash-boost-for-safety-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chopsybaby.com\/magazine\/bristol-gets-cash-boost-for-safety-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Bristol gets cash boost for safety research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">Bristol will be getting a share of \u00a33.6 million of extra funding towards innovative road safety projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">The grant from the Road Safety Partnership will fund a join project between Bristol City Council and the University of the West of England to evaluate the effectiveness of social marketing targeted towards young drivers in deprived areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">Bristol will receive up to \u00a349,242 and is in addition to the \u00a3110 million given to local authorities every year to spend on road safety. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">Road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick said: &#8220;Britain has some of the safest roads in the world and in 2007 the number of people killed on the roads fell below 3,000 for the first time since records began in 1926. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">&#8220;But if we are to continue to cut this terrible toll we need to find innovative ways to tackle the road safety problems we face.
