{"id":1810,"date":"2009-03-25T19:26:12","date_gmt":"2009-03-25T19:26:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chopsybaby.com\/mag\/?p=1810"},"modified":"2018-07-02T13:57:37","modified_gmt":"2018-07-02T12:57:37","slug":"mums-social-network-their-medical-conditions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chopsybaby.com\/magazine\/mums-social-network-their-medical-conditions\/","title":{"rendered":"Mums social network their medical conditions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 16.0pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Busy mums are turning to the internet to diagnosing family medial problems online rather than waiting in crowded doctors surgeries for appointments. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText2\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Arial;\">Communication company Virgin Media, surveyed modern mums across the country, and found that 46 per cent self diagnose or research a family health issue online.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">Social networking sites were found to be another popular way of discussing family issues with other mums and avoiding taking up time in the doctors. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;\">The phemomenon known as MOMMs (Mums Online Making Mates) is showing that mother\u2019s meetings and traditional coffee mornings are being ditched in favour of discussing parenting issues over the internet. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">Family psychologist Donna Dawson said: \u201cMany mothers feel that they don\u2019t want to face a long wait in a doctor\u2019s surgery and prefer to use the internet for guidance when self-diagnosing a medical problem. Virgin Media\u2019s research shows that the internet allows women to reach out to other mums, share their experiences and ask for advice and support, creating a virtual world of like-minded people that they can dip in and out of when it\u2019s convenient and from the comfort of their own homes. The internet has seemingly replaced the phone and the post for a lot of busy mums.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;\">Managing director of brand and marketing at Virgin Media, Ashley Stockwell said: \u201cThe internet is perfect way for busy mums to keep in touch with friends and family, and offers a variety of parental and health advice.
