Parents are concerned their children do not have enough access to drinking water when at school.<\/p>\n
More than 60 per cent of UK parents say their child’s school is not providing water throughout the day and 64 per cent are angry that water is banned from classrooms.<\/p>\n
Department of Education guidelines say that pupils at schools must have easy access to free and fresh drinking water at all times.<\/p>\n
The concerns raised affect those at primary school as young as four years of age.<\/p>\n
Parents are worried that their children are thirsty when they get home from school, with half noticing signs of dehydration.<\/p>\n
The findings come from research carried out by the Natural Hydration Council (NHC) with Netmums.<\/p>\n
NHC advisor, Dr Emma Derbyshire, said: \u201cIt is concerning that so many parents have said they don\u2019t think their children are drinking enough fluid throughout the day and I hope that parents and schools can find a good solution to this problem. It was reassuring to learn that 80 per cent of parents said they would like their children to drink more water, as this is the ideal choice for regular hydration as it contains zero sugar, calories, preservatives or additives.\u201d<\/p>\n
Current guidelines from the Department of Health state that children should aim to drink around 6-8 glasses of fluid per day.<\/p>\n
