If your minimum term contract is up with your gas and electricity company, then have a look at what other companies and tariffs are on offer.<\/p>\n

Check out\u00a0 various price comparison websites to see who are offering the cheapest deals, then visit the company’s website to see if you can get it even cheaper with a direct online deal.<\/p>\n

Special online tariffs are available with many companies, and paying through monthly direct debit with paperless billing can knock it down further.<\/p>\n

If you find through the warmer months that your direct debit is higher than your actual fuel consumption, do be wary about reducing it, as this may help you save towards the more expensive winter months.<\/p>\n

Father of two, Michael Davies, used the Classic Currentcost Monitor for two months. Michael told us how he got on with it:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile at first I was a little worried about attaching the monitor to our electricity meter I found the hardest thing was choosing where to put the display unit so the kids could not fiddle with it and\u00a0 I could keep a eye on how many units we were using.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe unit is not too futuristic looking or too plain so should fit in to anyone’s living room without the major fuss of re decorating to fit it in to your home.<\/p>\n

\u201cSetting it up is easy to do once you know what you are being charged per watt\u00a0 by your supplier. While this device can tell you what you’re using it can’t save you money on its own and you will need to keep a eye on it to see what you could switch off. You can see the price and usage shoot up when you turn on power hungry things like the telly, so it a good reminder to switch it off when you are not actually watching it. Even other appliances that are on standby still use power and you can go round and switch off everything and watch the price go down.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have found it has helped us to turn off unneeded lights and appliances at the plug, I just wish the kids were not tall enough to keep turning them back on!!!!\u201d<\/p>\n
