How much do you know about your family history? Not much? You wouldn’t be alone.<\/p>\n
According to 2000 people polled by Crown Carveries, It seems many people couldn’t tell you the basic details of their own family background.<\/p>\n
While things like the age parents got together, where they honeymooned and where they met may not seem like important details, we are missing out on facts that we really ought to know.<\/p>\n
A 58 per cent\u00a0didn’t know their grandparents’ full names. But even closer to home, 27 per cent didn’t know their own siblings’ date birth and 46 per cent what they actually do in their jobs.<\/p>\n
A 14 per cent won’t get past bank security not knowing their mother’s maiden name but really, the 27 per cent who don’t know how old she it?<\/p>\n
As family relationships change and the number of single parent families increase, it’s less of a shocker that children are growing up knowing less about their dads and dad’s side of the family.<\/p>\n
A spokesman for Crown Carveries, which commissioned the study, said: \u201cWith so many stresses and commitments in life, it\u2019s easy to lose sight of what\u2019s important at times.<\/p>\n
\u201cFamily may have some advice based on their own experiences and chatting to our relatives about their lives is a great way of getting closer.”<\/p>\n
