There’s\u00a0so many exiting things going on for children at this year’s WOMAD Festival it’s almost unbelievable.<\/p>\n

This year the World of Children is bringing South American sounds and party vibes with its Brazilian Carnival.<\/p>\n

Children will be able to get to grips with circus skills, samba dancing, experiment with music and create their own carnival costume for a parade.<\/p>\n

Two choreographers from Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures and Re:Bourne, will be inspiring adults and children with special dance masterclasses in The Happening Tent. There will also be the opportunity for children to learn dances from his Nutcracker!<\/p>\n

The BFI will be running a Silent Movie Workshop giving children the chance to learn about cinema history and video editing.<\/p>\n

And, amongst other delights, Steven Moffatt of Doctor Who and Sherlock, will be taking to festival goers about his work and the meeting of science fact with fiction.<\/p>\n

WOMAD’s tips for taking children to a festival are:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Baby wipes are your best friend \u2013 from spills to splashes to little accidents, wet wipes are a festival must for everyone.<\/p>\n

Layer up \u2013 it wouldn\u2019t be a great British festival without a healthy dollop of unpredictable weather, so it\u2019s good to be prepared for every eventuality. Wellies and raincoats are obvious staples in the WOMAD wardrobe, but don\u2019t forget sun hats and sun cream too.<\/p>\n

Stock up on snacks \u2013 having enough food to feed a small army is never a bad idea, especially with long festival days and energy-sapping activities like dance workshops and circus classes taking it out of our younger festival goers.<\/p>\n

Safety \u2013 make sure all young WOMAD attendees have the number of their guardian on their person so if there is a separation, families can be reunited quickly and efficiently.<\/p>\n

Enjoy \u2013 going to a festival with kids is a completely different experience, so embrace it. Seeing the world through their eyes means you can let go, embrace your inner child and have a bit of fun. Now, who said something about a Brazilian Carnival…<\/p>\n
