Work to remove a footbridge and two disused escalator buildings straddling one of Bristol major arterial roads will be commencing at the end of the week.<\/p>\n
The Old Market Footbridge used to enable pedestrians to cross the busy Temple Way Underpass and Bond Street near the Broadmead area.<\/p>\n
Now demolition work will be commencing, to remove the derelict buildings and bridge which have not been used for thirty years.<\/p>\n
The work is expected to last for up to six weeks and will see some\u00a0major road closures.<\/p>\n
Service Director for Transport, Peter Mann\u00a0said:\u00a0\u201cThe removal of the escalator buildings and footbridge at Old Market is a major job and has been planned to minimise disruption. Unfortunately, it is inevitable that some people will be inconvenienced and I would like to apologise in advance for this and thank everyone for their patience.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will ensure that diversion routes are clearly signed from all directions for the duration of the works.\u201d<\/p>\n
When the work is complete, new pavements, cycle lane and trees will replace the space left behind. The improvements are being jointly funded by Bristol City Council, the Quorum and the Government’s Cycle Ambition Fund.<\/p>\n
