A damaged Victorian stained glass window at Bristol Cathedral, has been restored and repaired in time for Christmas.<\/p>\n
Known as the Victorian Rose Window, the glass shows Christ surrounded by angels and trades people at work.<\/p>\n
The repairs went ahead in July after an anonymous donation allowed the work to start.<\/p>\n
The window hasn’t had work carried out on it since it was installed. It was suffering from cracks thought to be caused by blast damage from WWII explosions which destroyed other windows in the cathedral and parts of the school buildings.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe watched with interest as the work was done to repair stone work and metal in need of urgent attention,”\u00a0The Very Revd Dr David Hoyle, Dean of Bristol\u00a0 said.<\/p>\n
“The most startling and thrilling consequence of the repair is to get the glass back, not just restored, but suddenly brilliant and eye-catching. The west end of the cathedral is changed. We are utterly delighted.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bristol Cathedral is also launching a new windows trail for families and children as well as publishing its first Cathedral colouring book.<\/p>\n
