Many mothers find themselves affected by post-natal depression following childbirth. Despite how common this is, mothers can feel alone and isolated. Many don’t want to admit their feelings due to the stigma that still surrounds mental health issues.<\/p>\n
The charity Bluebell Nurses, are campaigning to develop a new community nursing service for these mothers by funding the first Bluebell Nurse in Bristol. A dedicated Bluebell Nurse with specialist training would be able to work in the community to support these women and their families, in their own home, for as long as they need it.<\/p>\n
The idea for Bluebell Nurses came from the personal experience of mum and charity worker Ruth Jackson. She felt that mothers could benefit from a specialist post-birth health service from which they could access help and advice when they needed it.<\/p>\n
She has been joined in her campaign by Hazel Rolston, who recently published her first book ‘Beyond the Edge’ telling her own story about her post-natal depression experience.\u00a0 www.mybeyondtheedge.com<\/p>\n
The charity is planning plenty of fun fund raising events to raise money for the cause.<\/p>\n
