Six million pounds of Government funding will be given to local authorities to identify and support children who have a parent with an alcohol-dependency.<\/p>\n

Local authorities will be able to bid for funding to run programmes in their area, with priority going to areas where there are more children at risk.<\/p>\n

The announcement was made today by\u00a0Health and Social Care Secretary Jeremy Hunt, with the funding aiming to support the 200,000 children in England whose parents have a problematic relationship with alcohol.<\/p>\n

The money will support identified children with fast access support and mental health services. Outreach programmes will also help parents through addiction treatment, with the ultimate aim of keeping children out of care.<\/p>\n

Health and Social Care Secretary Jeremy Hunt said: “The consequences of alcohol abuse are devastating for those in the grip of an addiction\u2013but for too long, the children of alcoholic parents have been the silent victims. This is not right, nor fair.<\/p>\n

These measures will ensure thousands of children affected by their parent\u2019s alcohol dependency have access to the support they need and deserve.”<\/p>\n
