{"id":34568,"date":"2018-05-14T13:34:30","date_gmt":"2018-05-14T12:34:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chopsybaby.com\/magazine\/?p=34568"},"modified":"2018-09-10T12:11:35","modified_gmt":"2018-09-10T11:11:35","slug":"parents-change-horror-endings-of-fairytales-at-bedtime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chopsybaby.com\/magazine\/parents-change-horror-endings-of-fairytales-at-bedtime\/","title":{"rendered":"Parents Change Horror Endings of Fairytales at Bedtime"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Parents Change Horror Endings of Fairytales:<\/strong> Scary endings and politically incorrect aspects of fairytales and classic children&#8217;s stories are being adapted by parents to soften the blow for children.<\/p>\n<p>A 2000 parents took part in a study which found that 16 per cent avoid certain stories altogether, and one in four changed bits to make them more age appropriate.<\/p>\n<p>The grizzly ending of Little Red Riding Hood with the wolf being\u00a0bludgeon open and the poor wolf being boiled alive in The Three Little Pigs are the top two stories parents will tell differently.<\/p>\n<p>The Gingerbread Man being eaten by a fox was the third horror story changed, whilst 36 per cent didn&#8217;t like the themes in the Pied Piper of Hamlin.<\/p>\n<p>The findings come from MusicMagpie, which looked into the tales parents hated and why.<\/p>\n<p>Cinderella offended those who felt it was wrong that she had an unfair share of housework. And, some missed the point of Robin Hood, who felt it was wrong to celebrate stealing &#8211; perhaps Tory households.<\/p>\n<p>A 25 per cent said the Ugly Duckling encouraged discrimination and one in four said Sleeping Beauty should not have been kissed without consent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Top 20 stories parents change are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs<\/p>\n<p>7. Beauty and the Beast<\/p>\n<p>8. Cinderella<\/p>\n<p>9. Jack and the Beanstalk<\/p>\n<p>10. Pinocchio<\/p>\n<p>11. Rumpelstiltskin<\/p>\n<p>12. Sleeping Beauty<\/p>\n<p>13. The Tale of Peter Rabbit<\/p>\n<p>14. Goldilocks and the Three Bears<\/p>\n<p>15. The Little Mermaid<\/p>\n<p>16. The Pied Piper of Hamlin<\/p>\n<p>17. The Frog Prince<\/p>\n<p>18. Rapunzel<\/p>\n<p>19. The Princess and the Pea<\/p>\n<p>20.
