It’s not going to be a popular decision for drivers in the city, but Bristol City Council has announced that Sunday and evening parking charges will be coming into force in the city centre from Monday 03 September.<\/p>\n
The charges will affect all the pay and display machines in the Controlled Parking Zone area, which is that which covers the city centre.<\/p>\n
The scheme is aiming to manage demand for limited amounts of parking in the area by restricting unlimited parking and increasing the turnover of parking bays.<\/p>\n
Parking signage in the city is in the process of being updated to include the changes.<\/p>\n
A parking tariff review took place in 2016, which looked at the parking charges in the city centre compared to other street parking, public and private parking locations in Bristol.<\/p>\n
From this the new changes will come into place every day – including Sundays.<\/p>\n
Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity,\u00a0Councillor Mhairi Threlfall says that 86 per cent of Sunday parking in Central Bristol is already charged so the new tariff will affect only 14 per cent of all parking bays.<\/p>\n
She believes the charging structure will be ‘easier’ for the public to understand and ‘should’ free up more available parking spaces.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn a vibrant, busy city like Bristol, how we manage parking supply and demand in our central areas is critical to keeping everyone moving, whilst also helping to tackle congestion and improve air quality,” she said.<\/p>\n
“With more people living and working in the city centre and changes to the design and layout of our highway network, we need to review our parking tariffs to ensure they help balance demand. The new charges were recommended as part of our review to encourage a greater turnover of parking bays, which will support the local economy by accommodating more spaces for visitors.”<\/p>\n
The new charging time and fee will be:<\/p>\n
1 hour zone
\nBetween 8am-6pm every day \u2013 50p for up to 10 minutes, \u00a31 for up to 20 minutes, \u00a31.50 for up to 30 minutes, \u00a32 for up to 40 minutes, \u00a32.50 for up to 50 minutes and \u00a33 for up to 1 hour (maximum stay);<\/p>\n
2 hour zone
\nBetween 8am-6pm every day \u2013 50p for up to 15 mins, \u00a31 for up to 30 mins, \u00a31.50 up to 45 minutes, \u00a32 for up to 1 hour, \u00a32.50 for up to 1 hour 15 minutes, \u00a33 for up to 1 hour 30 minutes, \u00a33.50 for up to 1 hour 45 minutes, and \u00a34 for up to 2 hours (maximum stay);<\/p>\n
4 hour zone
\nBetween 8am-6pm every day \u2013 50p for up to 24 minutes, \u00a31 for up to 48 minutes, \u00a31.50 for up to 1 hour 12 mins, \u00a32 for 1 hour 36 minutes, \u00a32.50 for up to 2 hours, \u00a33 for up to 2 hours 24 minutes, \u00a33.50 for up to 2 hours 48 minutes, \u00a34 for up to 3 hours 12 minutes, \u00a34.50 for up to 3 hours 36 minutes, and \u00a35 for up to 4 hours (maximum stay);<\/p>\n
In all zones
\nBetween 6pm and 11.59pm, every day, \u00a33 for any period up to 6 hours,
\nBetween 6pm and 9am the following day, every day, \u00a34.50 for a period of up to 15 hours,
\nBetween midnight and 8am, every day at no charge.<\/p>\n
