{"id":35939,"date":"2018-09-07T10:10:16","date_gmt":"2018-09-07T09:10:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chopsybaby.com\/magazine\/?p=35939"},"modified":"2018-11-21T10:52:39","modified_gmt":"2018-11-21T10:52:39","slug":"work-on-redcliffe-bridge-and-the-chocolate-path-approved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chopsybaby.com\/magazine\/work-on-redcliffe-bridge-and-the-chocolate-path-approved\/","title":{"rendered":"Work on Redcliffe Bridge and the Chocolate Path Approved"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Redcliffe Bridge and Chocolate Footpath Funding Approved:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Funding of up to \u00a33M has been agreed for Redcliffe Bridge, along with up to \u00a35M for the Chocolate Footpath at a Cabinet meeting in Bristol this week.<\/p>\n<p>The funding will see essential refurbishment to Redcliffe Bridge start at some point in the next financial year.<\/p>\n<p>The bridge has not been fully operational since 2015 after structural, electrical and mechanical investigations found that it was not safe to lift for boats and harbour traffic.<\/p>\n<p>Additional work is also needed to stabilise the river retaining wall which supports popular cycling route the Chocolate Footpath and historic railway. The route has been partly closed since 2016 after it was found to be gradually subsiding into the river. The \u00a35m of funding will go towards works that will stabilise the wall and stop any further subsidence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to take action now so that we can protect these important historical landmarks around our city\u2019s famous waterways,&#8221; Cllr Mhairi Threlfall, Cabinet Member for Transport said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This work is essential for looking after these important structural elements of our highway network, keeping them working and stopping parts completely slipping away in to the river.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we do not act now these costs are likely to rise substantially.
