Historic Map of Bristol<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

A clever interactive map of Bristol which shows people how much local areas have changed has just\u00a0been shortlisted for Best Heritage Research, Recording or Interpretation at the annual Historic England Angel Awards.<\/p>\n

The awards are supported by the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation to celebrate heritage heroes who have helped save historic buildings and places.<\/p>\n

The Know Your Place project features historical maps of Bristol scanned from original archives which lay next to the current landscape.<\/p>\n

Bristol Map Link<\/a><\/p>\n

It was the result of a 2011 project by Bristol City Council Principal Historic Environment Officer Pete Insole, who worked with the\u00a0Geographic Information Services team. The map allows people to contribute to it with their own photographs and stories.<\/p>\n

\u201cKnow Your Place is giving the public an active role in managing our heritage, helping to add more layers to what we already know about our historic environment,” Pete says.<\/p>\n

There are more than 2000 contributions on the Bristol page as well as a local list of 500 valued buildings.<\/p>\n

“We are amazed by what continues to be uncovered through contributions to the site \u2013 local heritage that would otherwise remain hidden. I am thrilled the project has received this recognition and I hope it continues to encourage more people to take an interest in the history of their local area.\u201d<\/p>\n

The nomination will be judged by a panel of experts as part of\u00a0the Historic England People\u2019s Favourite award chosen solely by the public.<\/p>\n

Voting is open until 18 November 2018.<\/p>\n
