Supporting Children with Burns, carries information to support both the injured children and parents and carers who may also be experiencing difficult feelings as a result.<\/p>\n<p>It reflects up-to-date research as well as personal testimonies from those who have experienced such injuries in the family.<\/p>\n<p>The research was undertaken by Dr Jennifer Heath as part of her PhD at the University of the West of England and the website is the first of its kind. Around 7,500 children in the UK need specialist burns treatment, with more being treated by A&amp;E departments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy research identified a real need amongst parents for a one stop shop, providing support and advice about living with burn injuries,&#8221;\u00a0Dr Heath said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The experience is extremely stressful but can also be isolating for parents.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Director of the Centre for Appearance Research at UWE Bristol,\u00a0Professor Diana Harcourt said: \u201cThe Centre for Appearance Research has been researching the psychosocial impact of burn injuries for more than 20 years. It has become apparent that, for many reasons, parents of children who have had a burn injury often do not have access to the support that could be available to them.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Often they don&#8217;t know any other parents who have been in the same situation, and many are left to work things out for themselves.
