{"id":37528,"date":"2018-12-19T09:01:16","date_gmt":"2018-12-19T09:01:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chopsybaby.com\/magazine\/?p=37528"},"modified":"2018-12-19T09:01:16","modified_gmt":"2018-12-19T09:01:16","slug":"cheap-fire-risk-electrical-christmas-products-fire-service-warns-bristol","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chopsybaby.com\/magazine\/cheap-fire-risk-electrical-christmas-products-fire-service-warns-bristol\/","title":{"rendered":"Cheap Fire Risk Electrical Christmas Products Fire Service Warns Bristol"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Electrical Safety Christmas in Bristol:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Avon Fire and Rescue (AF&amp;RS ) in Bristol, is warning residents in the city about cheap and dangerous electrical products given as gifts this Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>The warning comes on the back of an incident involving a heated pet blanket which had overheated and caught fire in the living room during the night.<\/p>\n<p>Two crews from Kingswood fire station battled flames at the incident on Charnhill Ridge in Mangotsfield in the early hours of the morning.<\/p>\n<p>It was smoke alarms and closed internal doors containing the fire which prevented the spread of the fire allowing residents to escape.<\/p>\n<p>Although the fire was an accident, the fire service is warning people not to buy cheap electrical products which may not be safe.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Fake or cheap electrical products appear more convincing than ever, but they can contain less than half the internal components required to run safely,&#8221;\u00a0Martyn Bolt the Station Manager for AF&amp;RS said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Remember, if a bargain looks too good to be true, the chances are it probably is.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBuying cheap could end up ruining your Christmas and putting your family or pets in danger. Always think before you buy and stay safe this festive period.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To avoid fires from &#8216;dangerous fake&#8217; and &#8216;substandard&#8217; electrical products,\u00a0AF&amp;RS recommends the following steps:<\/p>\n<p>Buy electrical products from reputable retailers. This way you can be assured you\u2019re buying the real thing<\/p>\n<p>Check prices and shop around! Check online shops and, if possible, visit the high street. Beware of &#8220;too good to be true&#8221; prices<\/p>\n<p>Check that voltage is 230-240V, 50Hz, and that products are fitted with a three-pin UK plug or charger<\/p>\n<p>When buying online, look for the padlock symbol at the bottom of the screen when you are filling in your payment details<\/p>\n<p>Beware glowing reviews, especially if the reviewers aren\u2019t verified<\/p>\n<p>Beware of words qualifying an item\u2019s authenticity. If the seller claims the product is \u2018genuine\u2019, \u2018real\u2019 or \u2018authentic\u2019, double-check the source. Most reputable retailers don\u2019t need to sell their products like this<\/p>\n<p>Look for the seller\u2019s contact details &#8211; a full address, and not just a PO Box number. Not all websites with a .co.uk address are based in the UK<\/p>\n<p>Read product guarantees, terms and conditions, and returns policies before you buy<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>More from Chopsy
