Bristol Send Crisis Rally on College Green:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bristol residents will be coming together to take part in a national day of action, rallying for more funding for special educational needs and disabilities (Send).<\/p>\n

Demonstrations are taking place across the country, with a petition of over 12000 signatures to be handed over to government by SEND National Crisis ahead of a major London event in Parliament Square.<\/p>\n

In Bristol, parents, carers, young people and education staff are being invited to a picnic event on College Green, opposite City Hall.<\/p>\n

Speakers, Send campaigners and representatives from the National Education Union (NEU) from across Bristol and South Gloucestershire will be in attendance.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a parent fighting for the best future for my child, fighting against a system that chooses to put barriers in my way, I know the toll this has on parents and our children,” parent Kerry Bailes and SEND National Crisis Bristol coordinator said.<\/p>\n

“The failure to address their needs, the failure to ensure they have an inclusive education, the failure to even get them into a school. I am turning my heartbreak into action, my frustration into deeds and we will not stop, we will not be silenced, and we will secure a full and inclusive education for our children.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bristol Independent Send Community (BISC), the group that won the 2018 Judicial Review against Bristol City Council to stop over \u00a35 million of cuts to Special Educational Needs in the city will also be speaking.<\/p>\n

Parent and BISC representative, Sally Kent said: \u201cLast year as parents we stopped horrendous cuts being made to the education and support to our most vulnerable children here in Bristol. That was just the first step in our campaign to ensure that all children receive the education they are entitled to under law and that we would expect to be provided within a country like ours. The system, and the politicians that lead that system, will hear our voices and we will ensure that our children\u2019s education is provided.\u201d<\/p>\n

The event takes place on College Green on Thursday 30 May 2019 from 1-3pm. Attendees are invited to bring a picnic for the family event.<\/p>\n
