Bristol Playbus Closure: Charity Ends Due To ‘Massive Cuts In Funding’<\/strong><\/p>\n

‘Massive cuts in funding for play’ has been blamed for the end of charity which brought play to Bristol for nearly half a century.<\/p>\n

The Bristol Playbus announced on its Facebook page today, that its mobile outreach play and disability services to Bristol children and neighbouring counties will come to an end next month.<\/p>\n

The charity posted ‘Due to massive cuts in funding for play over the past couple of years, we are unable to continue to provide the services we would wish and so have taken the decision to close.’<\/p>\n

The scheme, which saw a converted double decker bus transformed into a mobile play space, first launched in 1974. Several vehicles joined its play fleet over the years, including a Sensory Truck which provided inclusive play for children with disabilities.<\/p>\n

The charity also set up playranger sessions using ‘risky play’ to help children incorporate risk assessment into their games.<\/p>\n

Bristol playbus was also at the forefront of work with the Traveller Community, offering pre-school learning opportunities.<\/p>\n

Its services which include open access play at Southmead Adventure Playground and the short breaks for disabled children funded by Bristol City Council, will be passed over to Southmead Development Trust and WECIL.<\/p>\n
