this Christmas a new survey has revealed. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">The survey, conducted by Family Investments has found that despite the economic crisis, grandparents will still be shelling out on average \u00a350 per grandchild.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">This will come to a hefty sum as the average grandparent has four grandchildren.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;\">More than 50 per cent of parents questioned would prefere a contribution to their child\u2019s savings account and a smaller present rather than a larger gift.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;\">It also found that 64 per cent of these parents felt too uncomfortable to make the suggestion without being asked. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;\">Head of savings and investments at Family Investments Kate Baker said: \u201cGrandchildren are central to the lives of many grandparents and so it is no surprise that they want to treat their grandchildren at Christmas.\u00a0 But spending \u00a350 on Christmas gifts might not necessarily be the right thing in the eyes of parents.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;\">\u201cMy message to well-meaning grandparents, would be to talk to the parents of your grandchildren and ask them what they would prefer.\u00a0 In our experience, parents feel that the grandparent\u2019s already do enough for the children or they don\u2019t feel comfortable raising the subject of money.\u00a0 But re-directing your generosity and making a donation into the children\u2019s savings account, along with a small present on the day, will create a more lasting and welcome legacy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; color: red; font-family:
