North Somerset residents opposing the National Grid’s pylon plans will be setting off on a new year winter walk.<\/p>\n
Save Our Valley spokesman Sue Turner said: “We are united to prevent National Grid ruining our countryside and the walk is a big thank you to everyone who has helped.\u00a0 We\u2019re asking people to wear something red as National Grid\u2019s plans have made us see red.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe walk is also a way to let everyone know they only have six days left to get their letters and emails to National Grid. We are sending a huge 6ft card, signed by walkers, to National Grid asking them to think about the environment and people not about pounds.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hundreds of people are expected to join the march at 11am on Saturday 11 January.<\/p>\n
Campaigners from both Save Our Valley and Save Nailsea West will be marching from both Backwell Lake and Parish Brook Road following the two Corridors which National Grid plan to use for the 153ft tall pylons.<\/p>\n
Save Nailsea West spokesman, Fiona Erleigh said: \u201cIt\u2019s vital people realise it is not too late to email or write to National Grid to tell them what we want and what we don\u2019t want.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe love our rural landscape around the area, with the SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) across the moors which is home to otters, bats, birds and wildflowers and the beautiful lake at Backwell, which is home to hundreds of birds.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe walk shows how a town can come together, even though National Grid\u2019s plans have tried to divide us. We all want the same; a lovely place to live in where the environment and its inhabitants are considered before costs.\u201d<\/p>\n
