{"id":660,"date":"2008-12-19T11:05:58","date_gmt":"2008-12-19T11:05:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chopsybaby.com\/mag\/?p=660"},"modified":"2018-07-02T13:58:54","modified_gmt":"2018-07-02T12:58:54","slug":"be-frank-about-drugs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chopsybaby.com\/magazine\/be-frank-about-drugs\/","title":{"rendered":"Be Frank about Drugs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">If your Christmas is turning into a dull or fraught affair, then keep an eye on your teenager. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">Research carried out by FRANK, the drugs information service reveals that nine per cent of young people believe they may use drugs at some point over the festive period. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">Amongst this group half said it was because Christmas was about having fun, whilst 19 per cent said the drugs will help them deal with season stress. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">The survey took in the views of 16 \u2013 21 year olds and showed that despite Christmas being a family affair, teenagers felt bored being cooped up, and also anxious about family tensions ruining the celebrations. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">FRANK spokesperson Chris Hudson said: \u201cAfter weeks of anticipation and excitement it\u2019s understandable that people want to let their hair down. For some, however, Christmas can be a stressful time of year. Going over the top with your celebrations and using drugs isn\u2019t an antidote to stress and can be harmful. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">\u201cIt\u2019s normal for teens to need their own space and independence. However, they still need to know about the risks associated with drugs like cannabis, cocaine and ecstasy and to be given advice on dealing with pressure to do things they don\u2019t want to do.
