It’s a real worry being a new parent. There are so many new things to learn, look for and be aware of very quickly. Your new parental instinct doesn’t come equip with an inbuilt health encyclopedia, but it will develop over time and it will always niggle at you when there is something not quite right with your baby or toddler.<\/p>\n

When to dial 999<\/strong>
\nThe following symptoms are signs that a baby needs urgent medical attention:<\/em><\/p>\n

Not breathing
\nPale skin and blue round the lips
\nunconscious and\/or can not be roused
\nBreathing too fast
\nHaving a fit
\nHas a fever with temperature higher than 38C and has cold extremities \u2013 hands and feet
\nLimp and floppy
\nBulging fontanelle \u2013 soft spot on top of the head.<\/p>\n

When to contact your doctor urgently
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Unusual crying \u2013 high-pitched is a symptom of meningitis
\nNot interested in feeding
\nRash
\nExcessively dribbling which is nothing to do with teething
\nOddly coloured skin or appears bruised
\nDrowsy
\nNot wanting to be touched
\nIs developing a fever
