A new network aiming to boost the number of childminders in Bristol will be officially launched this week.<\/p>\n

The new scheme is timed to coincide with National Childminding Week\u00a0which is running\u00a0from 12 until 18 June.<\/p>\n

The launch of the new free to join network is one of a series of events taking place in the city to mark the occasion.<\/p>\n

There are around 400 childminders in the city, but recent surveys found more are needed in many areas of the city, including St Pauls, Easton, Lawrence Weston, Bedminster and St Annes.<\/p>\n

As well as increasing the professional status of childminders, it is hoped that the network will offer support, training and funding opportunities to encourage another 200 people into the profession.<\/p>\n

Strategic Director for Children, Young People and Skills, Annie Hudson, said: \u201cMany parents find that childminders are a flexible option and are reassured to know that their child is cared for in a home-environment by the same person every day.
\n\u00a0
\n\u201cThis new network aims to provide some formal support for childminders in the city so they can access training, resources and funding.\u00a0 It will also ensure that childminders can make good links with their local children\u2019s centre.\u00a0 I hope that the new network and campaign will attract more people to the profession, especially in areas where there are currently shortages.\u201d<\/p>\n

Events to support National Childminding Week have been taking place in Bristol\u00a0throughout the week.<\/p>\n

Friday 18 June will see an Open Doors session at local children\u2019s centres allowing childminders to drop in and make contacts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
