Parents of multiple births may benefit from a new initiative launched today by Tamba, aiming to support their needs and protect them from a higher risk of postnatal depression.<\/p>\n

According to a 2009 study, mothers giving birth to twins or more were found to be nearly twice as likely to suffer postnatal depression (PND) as mothers of single births.<\/p>\n

The added stresses and strains of raising more than one baby left women feeling alone, feeling suicidal or self-harming.<\/p>\n

The newly launched Get Ready For Multiples coincides with Twins, Triplets and More Week running this week until 4 July and is tackling the PND issue.<\/p>\n

Tamba will be offering parents free practical guides, a free phoneline offering information and support and free and subsidised pre- and antenatal courses fro families across the UK.<\/p>\n

Tamba President Judi Linney MBE, a former midwife, Health Visitor, and Public Health Director believes the new initiative will ’empower and support parents’ as well as health professionals.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cIt\u2019s a very different \u2013 and sometimes daunting \u2013 ballgame, being pregnant with two or more babies and caring for them in their first months of life. Unfortunately, with so many health professionals still lacking the specialist knowledge needed to prepare expectant parents for the challenges of having a multiple birth, it\u2019s not surprising that lots of parents really struggle.\u00a0<\/p>\n
