{"id":904,"date":"2009-01-15T14:51:01","date_gmt":"2009-01-15T14:51:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chopsybaby.com\/mag\/?p=904"},"modified":"2009-01-15T14:51:01","modified_gmt":"2009-01-15T14:51:01","slug":"m32-anti-congestion-work-planned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chopsybaby.com\/magazine\/m32-anti-congestion-work-planned\/","title":{"rendered":"M32 anti-congestion work planned"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">A congestion plagued motorway in Bristol may benefit from an innovative new scheme.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">The Highways Agency plan to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow on the M32 with a system called ramp metering.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">This system will regulate the flow of traffic joining the motorway on the entry slip road of junction 1 inbound.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">This work will be carried out during off-peak periods and overnight. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">It is due to start on February 9 and expected to be completed by mid-March.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">This will involve installing part-time signals that will automatically come into operation during periods of peak congestion. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">Highways Agency project sponsor, Sean Walsh, said: &#8220;The system is designed so the signals work part-time, during times of heavy traffic on the motorway network. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">&#8220;Motorists joining the motorway may have a few seconds delay at slip road lights, but this short delay will benefit themselves and all motorway users by ensuring they can make their journeys safely and reliably.&#8221; <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">Ramp metering will be introduced to 70 sites in England during 2009.
