{"id":944,"date":"2009-01-19T11:34:34","date_gmt":"2009-01-19T11:34:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chopsybaby.com\/mag\/?p=944"},"modified":"2018-07-02T13:58:32","modified_gmt":"2018-07-02T12:58:32","slug":"government-scheme-to-avoid-home-repossession","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chopsybaby.com\/magazine\/government-scheme-to-avoid-home-repossession\/","title":{"rendered":"Government scheme to avoid home repossession"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">The Government is rolling out a new mortgage rescue scheme to help struggling families avoid the risk of home repossession.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">The \u00a3200 million scheme is targeted at the most vulnerable households and with incomes of less than \u00a360,000 a year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">This would include people who are elderly, disabled or those with children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0<\/span>To<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>avoid repossession households will have to apply directly to their local authority for two options to help them remain in their homes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">They will either have to sell a share of their home to a housing association enabling a reduction in their monthly mortgage payments, or they can sell their entire home to a housing association and remain in the property as tenants paying a subsidised rent.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">The scheme is expected to help up to 6,000 households avoid repossession over the next two years.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">The scheme, which is expected to help up to 6,000 households avoid repossession over the next two years, is being expanded to all local authority areas in England from today, following its early introduction by 80 councils in December. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">Housing Minister Margaret Beckett said:<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>&#8220;We know that some families are worried about their mortgage payments right now, and we are determined to do everything possible to ensure repossession is always a last resort. For the most vulnerable households, the mortgage rescue scheme will be available across England to help ensure they can remain in their homes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 12.0pt;\">&#8220;This is part of a range of measures the Government is putting in place to help households at risk of repossession in the current climate.
