One month amnesty to pay tax online traders warned

Internet traders who have been avoiding the tax man are being warned they have just one month to get their tax affairs in order.

HMRC are offering the e-Markets Disclosure Facility, for people selling on auction sites and have not paid all the tax they owe.

The time limited amnesty for those coming forward before 14 June will see them paying lower penalties than those who HMRC catch up with.

The campaign is not aimed at families selling a few items, but those who buy and sell as a trade or business.

Marian Wilson, head of HMRC Campaigns, said:”I urge online sellers who think they owe tax on their income to get in touch and get their tax affairs in order, simply and on the best possible terms.

“The information and intelligence we gather is from a wide range of sources and it allows us to target those who should come forward as part of the e-Markets Disclosure Facility.

”If you owe tax and don’t get in contact, do not assume that HMRC will not catch up with you.”
