Local communities offered cash grant to stop knife crime

Local communities tackling knife crime will be given a cash boost by the government.

The new  £250,000 Ben Kinsella Fund, administered by The Prince’s Trust, will give away fifty grants for young people to run anti-knife crime activities.

The fund has been launched by the Home Secretary Theresa May and Brooke Kinsella.

The grants are aimed at areas plagued by high levels of knife crime and youth violence.

Each project will be mentored by The Prince’s Trust.

The grants will be targeted at areas with high levels of knife crime and serious youth violence and will be for projects which directly benefit other disadvantaged young people.

At the request of the Prime Minster and Home Secretary, Brooke has been heading a fact-finding missions, looking at current schemes designed to stop people using knives.

She said said: “Over the last few years I have seen people of all ages working together with their neighbours, the police, local charities and government to try and make a difference and drive knife crime out of their communities.

“This fund will give some of these young people the support they need to run anti-knife crime projects in their local area and I really hope it will make a difference to their neighbourhoods.”
