Children under ten years will consume 2,300 calories on Christmas Day
It’s going to be a porky Christmas Day for the average child, who will be consuming a whopping 2,300 calories in 24 hours of over-indulgence.
Mark Pearson, chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, says: “After a study we conducted that revealed adults eat an average of 4,000 calories on Christmas Day, we wanted to look into how many calories children munch their way through. We found that the average British child consumes well over the daily recommended allowance of calories on Christmas Day alone; hardly surprising given the amount of additional snacks consumed outside of main meals on the day.”
According to the findings by MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, children under the age of ten will be eating 600 more calories than they need.
The average Christmas dinner for kids will hit 900 calories, with 53 per cent of parents admitting their child has second helpings.
Children will also be notching up a further 600 calories on the big day with six variety box chocolates on 1.5 handfuls of crisps, two biscuits and 2.3 glasses of fizzy pop.
