Being a better parent is a popular New Year’s Resolution

Forget the diet, ditching booze and visiting the gym, parents have been vowing to spend more time with their children as their New Year’s Resolution for 2011.

Of the 1,211 parents queried by MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, one in three parents are aiming to ‘be a better parent’.

The majority of 52 per cent were aiming to do this by spending more time with their children and 21 per cent admitted they had to get to know their children better.

Behaviour management was another issue that parents wanted to improve throughout 2011, with 11 per cent intending to tell off their children less and 7 per cent claiming they needed to tell them off more.

Of the parents who took part in the study, 54 per cent believed they were good parents, with just 19 per cent believing they were bad.

The remaining 27 per cent were unsure.
