REVIEW: Chopsy Baby tests disposable nappies
Getting the right brand of disposable nappy for your baby can take time, testing and copious amounts of washing soiled clothes along the way. None of this is fun on the purse, but once you have found a nappy that works for your child it is likely you will stick with it. But, as all children have different derrières, what suits once child may not suit the next.
Supermarket snobbery can also lead to parents snubbing s store’s own brand, whilst clever marketing techniques and vouchers can have them reaching for the Pampers.
Chopsy Baby pits Pampers, Tesco, Boots and Asda nappies against each other to see who comes top in our tests.

Pampers Active Fit Review
4 maxi: 15-40lbs
Pampers Active Fit met with some controversy in 2010, when the design of the Active Fit changed. Parents and carers were complaining in numbers that the new design was responsible for terrible nappy rash on their children and that they leaked quickly and very badly. But how did our testers do?
Amy says: “This is the first time I have used Pampers Active Fit. I used their New Baby range for the first months because new parents get so many Pampers vouchers from everywhere. Now Josh has moved up to size four, I have used Active Fit for the first time.
“I must say I was surprised there was no padding at the back of the nappy and a little worried. But I found no problem with the nappy, other than I was probably changing a little more frequently than I was used to. They lasted no problem over night so longs as it was changed last thing. Josh had no nappy rash and they didn’t leak once.”
Caroline says: “I used Pampers Active Fit with my first son James religiously. With him, I found it was the only nappy that did not leak and was worth the extra money.
“Second time around with Alex, Active Fit are very different. They are not bulky and have no padding at the back. This is a really interesting design. It has given me a little extra wear out of clothes that would have been consigned to the outgrown pile simply because the thick padding of nappies pulling them tightly.
“I had read parents on the internet saying how bad these nappies had become, but to be honest, I got on with them fine. There was none of this hideous nappy rash that babies are alledged to have got and they didn’t leak at all. In fact, I found them to be a really nice fit and contained wee and poo.”

Boots Active Stretch Review
4 maxi: 15-40lbs
Amy says: “Yes, good. They lasted around three to four hours. Didn’t leak and survived poo. They were not bulky and a good fit.”
Caroline says: “I really liked these nappies. They fitted really well and came up nice and high around the stomach area. They fitted well at night. Really snugly but without having to pull the tops across too tightly. Held both wee and poo with average wear time around four hours.”
Boots Super Dry Review
4 maxi: 15-40lbs
Amy says: “Yes another good nappy. No leakages, no problems and survived both wee and poo.”
Caroline says: “Great. To be honest, I couldn’t tell any real difference between the two Boots nappies. Both were great.”

Tesco Baby Superfit Review
4 maxi: 15-40lbs
Tesco have recently revamped and relaunched their Superfit nappies.
Amy says: “I’m not a big fan of Tesco personally. I have boycotted their stores because I am sick of them taking every spare inch across Bristol. But, begrudgingly I would have to say their nappies were good. They easily survived poo and were not bulky between the legs. I did like them.”
Caroline says: “I was less keen on these. They were nicely fitting around the waist with some great elastic type stretching. But I found them a little smaller than other nappies. They would suit petite babies rather than chubby chunky ones.”

Asda Little Angels Comfort Dry Review
maxi: 15-40lbs
Amy says: “These were a nice fit, not bulky and lasted up to four hours. They survived poo and were a nice fit around the legs. I was really impressed.”
Caroline says: “Winners. Love the size, love the shape, just loved them. They fitted really well around the waist once Alex was happily in the middle of the weight range. Plenty of nappy around the top which didn’t interfere with trouser waist bands.”
Asda Little Angels Action Fit Ultra Dry Review
4 maxi: 15-40lbs
Amy says: “These got very bulky with wee very quickly. They lasted around two hours each. On one occasion, poo did shoot straight out of the side, but I may not have had them on properly or they may have been too big a fit around the leg.”
Caroline says: “As with the two different Boots nappies, I couldn’t tell the difference between either Little Angels styles. I did notice that there was a bit of wee leaking out but I think James was a little on the small size first of all. When I left them a couple of weeks he filled into them and they were fine. They were both great and I would recommend.”

The verdict: Which is the best disposable nappy?
None of the nappies tested caused any discomfort, allergic reaction or nappy rash. They were all tested to last through the night – eight hours. And, all of them managed this without leaks.
Amy’s verdict: “Tesco nappies were my favourite overall. I liked them but I’m not sure how I would buy them in the future without having to step in a Tesco store.”
Caroline’s verdict: “Asda nappies all the way with me. I’m surprised at how good they were as they are not my usual brand, but I will buy them in the future. Putting in a word for Pampers though as the Active Fit didn’t fail us and not as bad as I feel I have been lead to believe.”
