Think before you send revealing images youngsters are warned
Young people are being urged to think carefully before sending revealing photographs of themselves to others.
Known as ‘sexting’ The Child Exploitation And Online Protection Centre (CEOP), is warning youngsters to “Think before you send.”
According to research from Beatbullying, 38 per cent of young people aged 11-17 years of age have received distressing texts containing sexually explicit images.
Of those receiving such texts, 70 per cent knew the sender.
Chief Executive of the CEOP Centre, Peter Davies warns that some of these images have ended up in collections of child abuse images.
He said: “It is now so easy to send pictures instantly via emails and texts that we are seeing instances of boys or girls sending sexual images of themselves to others without considering the consequences. They often find out later that the image has been passed on to many others and as a result they can be the victims of bullying or harassment.”
