Mothers with newborns get out faster and further than mothers in the past

Newly postnatal mothers are getting up and getting out faster than the mothers in the past.

A total of 60 per cent of today’s mothers are leaving the house within 48 hours of giving birth compared to 34 per cent of mothers 40 years ago.

They are also getting further away, with one in five travelling up to five miles a day.

New mums with babies 40 years ago were not traipsing quite so far, with 41 per cent only going as far as their next-door neighbour’s house.

Now, according to the findings by tommee tippee, mums are keen to get out and have fun with their babies.

Their research finds 9 per cent go swimming with their newborn and 19 per cent taking part in fun activities such as baby yoga or cinema trips.

But 16 per cent of these new mums still haven’t quite got to grips with the baby, having to cut their fun short to dispose of a dirty nappy.
